It’s Mental Health Awareness Week!

Mental Health Awareness Week runs from 6-12 October and aligns with World Mental Health Day on 10 October to amplify national and global attention on mental wellbeing. The week promotes practical, everyday ways people can look after their oranga/wellbeing and support each other.

About Mental Health Awareness Week
Mental Health Awareness Week, in collaboration with the Mental Health Foundation and Health New Zealand, focuses on encouraging conversation, action, and community-led wellbeing. It aims to normalise seeking help, reduce stigma, and give people simple, evidence-based practices to improve their daily mental health.

This year’s theme ‘Top Up Together’
The theme Top Up Together, which encourages people to connect with whānau/family and friends and embed the Five Ways to Wellbeing into everyday life:

  1. Me whakawhanaunga / Connect
  2. Tukua / Give
  3. Me aro tonu/ Take Notice
  4. Me ako tonu / Keep Learning
  5. Me kori tonu / Be Active

Practical steps for the week
• Check in with whānau, friends, and neighbours and invite them to share time together.
• Try a new activity with someone else to build connection and shared experience.
• Take short daily moments to notice your surroundings and how you feel.
• Give time or skills to a local cause or community group to strengthen social ties.
